FengYi Guo

Fengyi Guo is a 20-21th century artist who originated from Xi-an, China. She takes an unconventional approach to her works by starting off with large brushstrokes with no initial plan in mind; discovering her own creation as she works gives the impression that, similar to the reader, they discover new and deeper meanings as they venture further into the piece. Her works frequently feature dreamlike, surreal landscapes and monstrous figures which allow the viewer to enter into a realm of the subconscious, exploring and questioning their memories and identity. Guo once said “I draw because I do not know”, which perhaps show us that the artist herself is also trying to discover and seek her own identity through her artworks. They could simply be a visual representation of her journey to herself.
