Judy Chicago

Judy Chicago, a renowned American feminist artist, specialises in the large collaborative art installation that comments about the role of women in history and culture, more specifically, birth and accomplishments. One of her most notable projects was ‘the Dinner party’ which is a tribute to women’s history and achievements. It consists of a large triangular table with place setting dedicated to prominent women throughout history with 999 names inscribed on the table’s brick base. Though many art critics commented her work lacked naunce and this project was simply just ‘vaginas on plates’ the attention it drawn was more significant than the overall meaning. It not only highlighted the crucial nature of women’s roles in society but also displayed it in a visual way that is captivating for the audience.
