Growing up in a neighbourhood filled with the sounds of US military helicopters and traces of the Korean War, Kay Seohyung Lee was raised learning how to pronounce English words before she could even write in Korean and exposed to people of colour through the media where their language would even be treated as noises. Lee’s work is an outlet for her own despairs and feelings, expressing her true commentaries on society and the bruises and cuts that she gained during her experiences of viewing bodies like her being treated as villains and sexual beings on the media. These strong emotions are reflected through her work where elements of chaos and anger intersect showing the violence towards women like her in the background of an almost unnatural setting shown by the reversal of nature, such as the blue flames. Thus from her works, there is the clear relationship between the complexity of femininity and nature.
