Svetlana Tiourina is a Russian artist whose work is inspired by the ‘longing for lost feminity.’ She once stated that her ‘work stems from a personal search for the inner human: her soul and spirit’ and perhaps that is also her intention for the viewer: to seek and truly understand the inner soul and identity. When looking at her pieces, one could interpret a sense of freedom yet also confinement which is something that could resonate with the female identity. Despite the advancements that have been made, societal expectations still manage to uphold a sense of confinement, and her art reflects this invisible struggle beautifully.

One of the most striking aspects of Svetlana Tiourina's works is her unconventional use of colour. In ‘Morning Spirit’ she embraces odd combinations that defy traditional stereotypes (neon yellow, muddy orange and dark blue), creating a visual language that speaks to the viewer and demonstrates her ability to challenge norms through unexpected colour pairings.
